Club Service Report
19-Feb-2004
Prepared by L. Rodlie for G. Prokopetz

Pursuant to my club assembly report of Jan. 28, 2004, and resulting suggestions given, I have done the following:

Membership

  1. Asked Sue Bock, who expressed an interest in new membership to join Walter Siemens, Thorpe Watson and myself to help streamline the way we process new Rotarians. The four of us held a meeting yesterday after our noon meeting and came up with four recommendations.
  2. Anyone considering proposing a new member to Rotary, invite same to attend at least two meetings first to see what we're about, and if they can fit into our club.
  3. Once proposal form is submitted, the executive is to act as quickly as possible to approve/disapprove the proposed member (no longer than two Rotary noon-time meetings.) Perhaps this can be done after our noon meeting, as has been done a couple of times?)
  4. After executive approval and applicant certification, an informative chat will be held to enlighten new member as to Rotary protocol and areas in which they may serve. The president and/or club services chair to do this?
  5. Assign a more experienced Rotarian as a mentor to guide each new Rotarian into our fold and answer or find answers to any questions that may ensue. Actually, I have already done this for each of the latest new Rotarians. Most seemed to appreciate having someone to go to for guidance, if necessary.
  6. Recommendation really is to have each new member be pinned by their individual mentor upon induction.
  7. We as the membership committee are working on saving Rotary funds by printing out forms and manuals on computer with possibly a small reimbursement later. Sue Bock would like to do this.
  8. I would like to meet informally with each new member or with a group of new members to see where their interests lie. Would you authorize me to do this and then for me to direct them to an appropriate club services chair? I would like to do follow-up on how they are proceeding once on a committee in order to offer encouragement or help. May I do this?
  9. I would like to also checkup on absent members to ascertain why they aren't coming to Rotary and check on our membership turnover as Bruce Fawcett suggested.

Fellowship:

  1. I would like to elect a fellowship chair - Julie Thornhill, to head a committee to involve the membership in innovative and fun ways of camaraderie and moneymaking.

Speakers program:

  1. I have assigned three different Rotarians to chair the speaker program from April through June to the end of my term.
  2. I have been pleased with our president's prompt timing in our last two meetings. Excellent job! It allows time, a half-hour for club actitivies and half-hour for speaker, as needed. Thanks.

Club Facilities

  1. I feel that I may have overstepped in this area. Ernie is our Sgt. Of Arms and is in charge of lunches. I did ask if the club needed revitalization in regards to Venue and Food, and other than Shelly Lewchuk, who felt undernourished at lunch, the rest of the membership seemed satisfied. Case closed?
  2. I would like to ask Shelly for suggestions as to her choice of activities for the more youthful Rotarians. What does she have in mind?
  3. In closing, the club assembly revealed a lot, a very useful event with hopefully positive repercussions for our club. Thank you.
