2002 - 2003 Ways and Means Ideas

The following ideas have been given to me over the last few weeks and some ideas are from the past. These are all for your information and comments. We WELCOME Additional IDEAS.

1. Write and publish a book - the history of the Trail Club or a Club cookbook? Hold for a winter idea!

2. Las Vegas Night - we could inquire about using the old Arrow Building Store to host a Vegas style gambling evening, possibly Bingo upstairs, maybe food and drink at the Riverbelle? or music? This would require a lottery license?

3. Hole in One Golf Tournament - 9 par three holes at Birchbank ( modify the front nine to accommodate the required distances to satisfy the insurance requirements) - with a chance for a CAR on each hole? Dealerships and sponsors to pay for the insurance (about $ 400) for each hole. Possibly we could offer a putting contest for 50/50 money? Pay for each put that goes in the cup?
I have some support from a couple of our members- this could be a good fund raiser if we advertise well and it will require lots of volunteers for 3 or 4 hour to watch and verify a legitimate hole in one.
4. Wine Festival - check with Rossland to OK or... Maybe couple with our Silent Auction? Or raffles? Or do a joint effort with Rossland? I do not know how we make a lot of money here without overcharging to attend???

5. A Night of IMPROV - hire a proven group of improv players to perform a 2 hour show after a dinner or stand alone? Shane McIntyre has provided information and has witnessed their performance. A good idea as it is new to the area, cost is about $3000.

6. Carnival - rides and games for children at a time other than Silver City Days? On the Esplanade or Waneta Mall? How much will parents spend in a year on carnival rides??

7. Selling the "Trail Rose" as a combination fundraiser, greening project and image builder for Trail. 1500 rose bushes for $ 20 each. $ 5 to the Club for each bush sold? I think the rose order is for only 500 roses not 1500. We need to advertise as image and greening project for Greater Trail.

8. Organize a Spaghetti Feed for the 600+ people in Trail to train with the 44th Field Squadron in August 2002? They get a day off during their rigorous training schedule -Maybe an Appreciation Dinner - thanks for coming and thanks for your peacekeeping, etc. Keep price about same as Colander and offer cheap beer and wine ($ 2). Maybe work with Colander/Riverbelle so no hard feelings?
Offer meals from 5 to 8 PM only, then send them out to enjoy the evening? This looks like it will not fly as Major Warne is away and has not returned my call and Dino only has 2 Satudays open in August?

9. Raffle some big item like a trip or jewelry or other product?? This would require a lottery license.

10. Dream Auction - sell big ticket items that Rotary members can supply or get for the event. I am thinking about a weekend at your ski cabin, lake cabin, or timeshare. What about dinner for 4 at your house, or theirs? How about a case of your best wine, Antipasto, Salsa, pickles etc.?

11. Newspaper or TV Bingo - a new number drawn every day - this gives about 50+ days of the opportunity to sell more Bingo Cards?

Here are the new ideas:

12. Engraved Brick for our Rotary Park / Canada Trail- sell bricks for say $35. Cost, $15, leaving a profit of $20/per.
What Rotarian would not want his name in the park?

13. A community spaghetti feed similar to the Centennial one.
Advertize a Rotary cause (PolioPlus, Exchange Student, etc etc) We would need Ferraro's help and sell the meals for $5 ??

14. Breakfast with Santa??- Gord Gattafoni suggests that this could be for PolioPlus and spread the idea to other clubs, even international??

15. A cheque writing session - Rotarian can get tax receipts. This could show the community that Rotarians give themselves before we ask the community to give. Example: The Trail Rotarians have raised $4000 for PolioPlus-If you would like to show your support of this worthwhile project or any other Rotary project that will be for this community, please attend some of the following fundraisers: spaghetti feed, improv night, hole in one golf tournament, etc, etc

16. Donate $8000 or a portion of that from the Erickson Fund for PolioPlus, thus leaving all fundraising for typical Trail Rotary projects.

12. Your idea……….Or comment………….Thanks, all are welcome to comment and pick your top 4. The W&M committee will meet and investigate the ideas and come back to the Club with details and ask for recommendations. We await your replies.
