Old business
Hospital project update
Jan is having a meeting with interested parties on Oct. 12 and expects to hear back from the Colombo lodge on its commitment, sometime in October. Also recognized that this won't happen without fundraisers. Jan reported that she is doing a presentation to the Beaver Valley Club and that Grand Forks club has come onboard as supporting. She wants to get someone else to be liasion next year as she will be president.

Signing in - Leslie's replacement - We are going to see if Ray Masleck could ask some of the seniors in the club if one of them would like to take this on.

Twin Clubs - should we pursue? - It was thought that if we focus around an international project, it would add more meaning to twinning, and to the project. We'd like to pursue a relationship with Oswaldo's club in Brazil.

Interact - update - Lana reported that she wants to proceed with this, having met some Crowe students who would like to get this off the ground before they graduate. They are in Grade 10. Lana is to contact those who said they would form a committee. She has already spoken with Grant Lenarduzzi who is looking for a teacher to help lead this up. No meeting at the school is planned yet, but it's coming.

Budget update from John - he was absent due to illness but sent the following report which was received after the meeting:

In regards to our current finances, we are having an average year. Most members have paid their dues and or I have talked to them directly about paying. Two have not (Ray plans to talk to both of them.)

Currently we are running a deficit for this fiscal year but this is not something to worry over. We have not realized any revenues from club fund raising yet (prior to Festa Italiana) and international dues are collected annually but some members pay dues semi annually so as these funds roll in our budget will fall more in line. Keep in mind this is our operating budget and does not include big projects like Heartland House. I believe we can use approx. $10,000 from reserves for this project should the club decide to do so. Currently our operating account balance is approx. $5,000 and our daily savings is approx. $12,000. I would like some direction from the executive on the $ 12,000. Can we put it into a 6 month or 1year term to generate some better return. This means tying the money up for 6-12 months. Is the executive willing to do this or do they wish to keep liquid should we decide to use it sooner for a project.

COMMITTEES
Sgt. In Arms - No report but suggestions that the tables should be moved around to try and get members to socialize more with different members.

Community Service - No report but Leigh sent the following:

I think speakers are under good control as we only have 2 slots to fill between now and Dec 30th.
I'm not aware of any groundswell of impatience to have "guess whos coming to dinner" reborn. It's a good idea in the abstract but I don't want to revive it if its the same small group who are interested. If we can think of someone who would like to take this, perhaps it could be tried again in the long winter months where a night out is an antidote for cabin fever.

Club Service - No report
Retention of member - New Leaders Program - anything new? Are we pursuing? - no discussion
People recommended for membership: Sherry Hand, - need to get membership applications and need to set a date for induction - Larry Doell (if he's still interested), Carol Markowsky. And we need someone get on the transferring of Fran Gelinas' membership from P.G.

International Service - Cheryl Yates
Youth Exchange
· Incoming student Mareen Kraus is here, attending Grade 11 at RSS and living with the Naickers in Paterson. Two other host families are lined up.
· Cheryl took Mareen to the Youth Exchange orientation in Coeur d'Alene in September.
· Margarita Loyola, Cheryl, Mareen and Katie Moorhead, who returned from Mexico will be holding an information seesion at Crowe on Oct. 7 at noon to get an exchange student for next year.
· One student currently interested.
Group Study Exchange
· Have one person interested in exchange to Japan in 2005 however, she got her application in late and the choice was already made in our district. She is considering being an alternate.
Foundation
· Foundation month is Nov. and Ernie Lalonde has taken on the role of Foundation chair.
· Starting this week, we will have metal stands on each table with envelopes and information for Foundation giving. People will be encouraged to put in pocket change, bills, cheques, whatever and their name on the envelope. The funds will be tallied and a receipt will be issued to that person at the end of the year.
· In Nov. we should set one meeting aside for a Foundation presentation.
World Community Service
· Discussion around supporting Osvaldo's Brazil housing project for 2004-05. Possibly we'd be able to sponsor one house - $3,000 U.S. Cheryl is looking into matching grants for this project. Motion to endorse this project and spend up to $3,000 using one-quarter for a matching grant, if possible.

Vocational Service - Scott's report is on the website

Ways and Means
The Columbo is booked for Nov. 26 for the Silent Auction Wine & Cheese Dinner. Rae Naka and Julie Thornhill are working on this.
Julie Thornhill to organize Phoenix Dinner Theatre and I have booked Italo Canadese for Feb. 5. But Lana reported that the Phoenix group is having second thoughts and wants considerably more money. So the project has been left hanging. Gay to look into this along with Julie.
In the meantime, a possible different option was discussed - how about a caberet and dinner night? Jan suggested talking to Anne Demude about upcoming acts coming to town and that possibly we could piggy back on that.

New Business - nothing to report

Next meeting will be at Jan Morton's on Oct. 19.
