International Services Report, Rotary Club of Trail
July 2010

The priority this year will be on our partnership with San Miguel and trying to get out in front of the grant cycle. The effective deadlines for applications have been moved up and, because of outstanding projects and the quick committal of district funds, we were not able apply for either a district simplified grant or matching grant for 2010/11.

We have $3,000 earmarked for San Miguel this year and Interact has $1,500. We are talking to San Miguel about how to use these funds, possibly joining in a larger matching grant application for their ongoing water projects.

We have another $1,000 in our budget that is uncommitted, although we have discussed the idea of holding it in reserve and then running a little mini-community campaign they next time there is need for disaster relief. (Match the Rotary grant for whatever they are calling Shelter Box at that time.)

Outstanding are the matching grant project to purchase used computers for San Miguel schools, and the district simplified grant, which has been switched from material for the hearing-impaired school to purchasing used fire trucks. The truck purchase is well along, I am told. I haven't had a report on the computers lately, which has expanded in scope because they secured a cheaper supply of refurbished computers than expected.

The $1,500 in surplus funds from last year has been used, along with some San Miguel community foundation funds, to purchase some new beds for the hospice.
