Job Title Scholarships Chair
Description
The Scholarships Chair is responsible for two scholarship activities: 1) J.L. Crowe Rotary Service Scholarship, and 2) Rotary International Scholarships.
1. J.L. Crowe Rotary Service Scholarship
1. Communicate with the J.L. Crowe Scholarships officer (Ms. Pat Sidey, psidey@sd20.bc.ca, J.L. Crowe Secondary School, Scholarships Committee, 1300 Frances Moran Rd., Trail, BC, V1R 4L9; tel: 250.368.5591; fax: 250.364.1676. www.jlcrowe.org) to ensure they know you are the Club's official contact for the year. E-mail communication should be copied to the Vocational Services Director. Post mail should be sent to your attention through the Club's mailing address: Rotary Club of Trail, P.O. Box 28, Trail, British Columbia, Canada, V1R 4L3.
2. On an annual basis, review the
purpose of the scholarship and forward any recommendations for change to the Vocational Services Director.
3. Ensure that a Club member, possibly yourself, is in attendance at the J.L. Crowe convocation ceremonies to present the scholarship. The School prepares a notice for you to present at the ceremonies. The Scholarship presenter will join other VIPs on stage during the exercises.
4. After the convocation ceremonies, contact the scholarship recipient and invite him/her to join you/us for a Rotary lunch meeting. Introduce the student during lunch. Prior to the lunch, contact the Club Treasurer and request that a cheque be available for you to present during the lunch meeting, or that a cheque be prepared for submission to the educational institution where the scholarship recipient has enrolled. Also, prior to the lunch, write and sign an official Club letter describing the purpose of the scholarship, the amount of the award and congratulating the recipient.
5. Make a written request to the Rotary Club of Trail WebSite adminstrator to update the list of J.L. Crowe Scholarship Recipients with this year's recipient's name.
2. Rotary International Scholarships
Familiarize yourself with Rotary International Scholarship information that is posted to the Rotary International WebSite. Promote awareness of these scholarships through the Club and community. Make a written request to the Rotary Club of Trail WebSite manager to make appropriate updates to the WebSite: due dates, contact person, etc.
