WHAT IS RYLA
RYLA is an intensive 1-week leadership and training program for current and potential youth leaders.
WHAT IS A TYPICAL RYLA PROGRAM AGENDA
Using a small-group format with presentations and ample opportunity for group discussion, successful candidates
will investigate a variety of topics: keys to understanding ourselves and others, importance of communication in
effective leadership, elements of community and global leadership, goal setting, motivation, styles of leadership,
what makes an effective leader, group dynamics, ethics, critical thinking, Rotary's purpose and service to the
community, and a variety of other topics. Presentations will feature a wide cross-section of speakers from a variety
of leadership perspectives.
WHO WILL BE ATTENDING
Under District 5080, young people from British Columbia, Idaho, Washington and other countries will attend.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Young adults, 18-25 years of age, male and female, married or single will attend. Rotarians and their families
are eligible to participate. Attendees must have graduated from grade 12 and should have a position of leadership
or have displayed leadership potential.
HOW DO I APPLY
You must complete an application form and
return it to the Rotary Club in your area. While application deadlines will be set by individual clubs, you are
encouraged to apply long in advance of the RYLA July summer camp held every year.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF I HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED
The sponsoring Rotary Club will be in contact with you and you may be required to attend an interview. You will
also receive a letter from the RYLA Camp Director with details about the Camp.
WHAT DOES ATTENDING THE CAMP COST?
Your local Rotary Club will pay for your registration. While travel assistance might be provided, you will be responsible
for travel costs.
