During the year we had two of the directors encountered serious health problems and had to withdraw. Another director
resigned from Rotary.
Despite these setbacks we managed to achieve several of our goals.
Brenda and Leigh, along with a lot of club support, were able to hold a very successful auction evening in the
Cominco Gym. The funds raised were earmarked for the Abbyfield House project. The original vision for the Abbyfield
House project was changed due to high costs, but the society is now working on new approaches to this concept of
seniors housing.
Forrest again organized the annual Carol Festival to raise funds for the local Salvation Army. A record amount
was collected this year.
Bruce Fawcett is in his second year of chairing of the District 5080 Conference to be held in Trail May 29 through
to June 1st. There has been a very busy core group of local Rotarians working on this big event. We wanted to ensure
our members were available for the Conference work, so other or new club projects were not initiated.
Lana has done an excellent job of arranging our programs this year. We are more aware of what's happening in and
around our community because of her efforts.
Leigh Harrison took on the responsibility for the Rotary Foundation this year. His efforts went very well as an
average of $100 per member was donated to the Foundation.
The location of our lunch hour meetings has been changed to the Cafe Americano as of May 7th. We were very fortunate
to have been able to use the Riverbelle location for about 26 years. The owners treated us very well and helped
us keep our lunch costs to a minimum.
Our membership has decreased somewhat this year and for various reasons the attendance has not been what we would
have liked to have seen. We do have one new member proposed at this time.
Laurie Pettijohn has stepped up to be the new club President for 2008-2009 to replace Bruce Fawcett. He has been
to PETS and is ready to take over after the turnaround meeting June 25.
John Palmason, President 2007-2008
